Holiday Treats, Round 1

I planned to teach my mom and grandma how to make Cake Pops over the holiday weekend.  We couldn't find any lollipop sticks in my parent's little town...so we made cake balls instead.

Yummy, yummy cake balls.
Chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, and a little peanut butter thrown in for fun!

Aren't they pretty?

I think I like the white sanding sugar the best...they look like little snowballs.

  2. Question for you - your cake balls are so smooth... (super weird thing to say, btw) how do you get it like that? mine have turned out lumpy in the past....

  3. Were they lumpy because of lumps of cake coming off? or because the chocolate had lumps in it?

    If its the cake:
I put the balls of cake in the freezer for awhile before dipping. It seems to work better with them cold. I've also found that if I don't use enough frosting they fall apart a little, which could cause bumps/lumps.

    If its the cake:
I use candy melts...not chocolate. I microwave them until they are very smooth, stirring frequently. When I tried it with actual melted chocolate once they came out a little lumpy.

    Hope that helps!
